Akihabara
Akihabara is totally mind numbing with the massive amounts of media and technology, which is jam-packed into every corner, bill board, and alley way possible. I’ve never found cheaper computer parts, and in such abundance, anywhere. I will definitely get into more aspects about Akiba when I have a chance, such as the maid cafes, game stores, arcades, and so on. I haven’t fully explored the area yet, but what I have explored I will definitely post about in the future. I have a feeling maid cafes might be under consideration for a post in the near future, as I’m sure many people are interested in what those are all about, and how they work.
In the mean time check out the Akihabara picture gallery located at the top left under “pictures,” and let me know if there is anything else about Akiba you’d like to know. Thanks.

are they getting their maid costumes from akihabara? Or is there speciality distributors? Also any maid cafe’s with food that is particularly delicious?

Thanks for the comments.
I’m pretty sure that maid costumes can be purchased anywhere in Japan. Many shops I went into had maid costumes for around $50-60 CAD. Although I’m not certain if it was those exact costumes those maids were wearing. They might have acquired a special costume from the store where they got hired.
Although there are several maid cafes which act as restaurants, the popular trend nowadays seems to be geared towards maid massages. The picture I have up in this post is for a maid “salon” which offers a quick 20 minute “course” for about $25CAD, to a 1 hour course for about $63CAD.
I haven’t eaten in a maid cafe before, so unfortunately I can’t provide you with info as to whether the food is great or not. Sorry!!

I knew Akihabara was a technological oaisis and an anime/manga hive…but this is the second time I’ve heard about it being a center for hentai and similar stuff. I think Tofugu has a Japanese TV news exposee on the hentai/host lub/cosplay/doujinshi/otaku culture of Akihabara…I knew Japan was quirky (that’s why we love it), but I gotta admit that surprised me.
