I knew Akihabara was a technological oaisis and an anime/manga hive...but this is the second time I've heard about it being a center for hentai and similar stuff. I think Tofugu has a Japanese TV news exposee on the hentai/host lub/cosplay/doujinshi/otaku culture of Akihabara...I knew Japan was quirky (that's why we love it), but I gotta admit that surprised me.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm pretty sure that maid costumes can be purchased anywhere in Japan. Many shops I went into had maid costumes for around $50-60 CAD. Although I'm not certain if it was those exact costumes those maids were wearing. They might have acquired a special costume from the store where they got hired.

Although there are several maid cafes which act as restaurants, the popular trend nowadays seems to be geared towards maid massages. The picture I have up in this post is for a maid "salon" which offers a quick 20 minute "course" for about $25CAD, to a 1 hour course for about $63CAD.

I haven't eaten in a maid cafe before, so unfortunately I can't provide you with info as to whether the food is great or not. Sorry!! :(
