Toshi Sushi
So far, I’ve given some tutorials on how to make Japanese food at home. So I would assume that another purpose of this blog is to voice my opinion on what are some of the bet Japanese food options while in Toronto, incase you aren’t the cooking type (but of course it is always nice to go out for a good meal!).

Today I will post about Toshi Sushi(敏寿司:としずし)which is one of the places I consider to have the best sushi in Toronto. I happened to go in for dinner yesterday with my girlfriend and a few friends, so I snapped some pictures.
A shot from the outside taken after we left. Although the OPEN sign appears to be broken, it is actually one of those flashing OPEN signs. So no, it isn’t broken. The place itself is rather small (by Canadian standards I suppose), and I’m assuming it seats 30 - 50 customers at max capacity. I’ll give the directions at the end of the post.

We sat down at around 7:30pm, and ordered some cold sake as the day was hot and we needed something to cool down. Toshi Sushi has a good selection premium sake imported from Japan. Just ask your server for details!

As you head to the back of the restaurant you get to the sushi bar. If you are interested in practicing your Japanese, or just would like to speak to someone in Japanese, I’m sure the Japanese chefs, as well as the Japanese staff would be more than happy to chat with you (provided they aren’t too busy). For those who live in Toronto, you will know that the majority of sushi joints are run by Chinese or Korean staff. Toshi Sushi is one of the few places in Toronto that offers a (almost) fully Japanese staff.

For starts we had some really good Miso soup, カニクリームコロッケ (Kani Kuriimu Korokke : Crab cream Croquette), and アスペラベーコン (Asupera Beikon : Asparagus Bacon), and Yaki-tori (Chicken skewers with “tare” sauce). The presentation was very nice, and everything was delicious. I could be mistaken, but I believe Toshi Sushi is one of the only places in Toronto that offers Kani Kuriimu Korokke.

I can’t really have yaki-tori without of one these. Asahi is one of my favorite beers, coming in at #2 or #3 I suppose.

Going to Toshi Sushi, of course you are going to have SUSHI! We ordered a 50 piece set which we split between the 4 of us. The set includes an assortment of Nigiri and Maki, and both the rice and fish are of the freshest quality, and expertly prepared by the head chef/owner. If you have eaten sushi in Tsukiji, the taste and smell of the sushi at Toshi will bring you right back there. The assortment of fish are as follows: Salmon, marinated salmon, red tuna, white tuna, eel, shrimp, and I believe what looks like mackerel.
The set combo comes in 20 piece, 30 piece, and 50 piece if I am correct. So the variety and size is good for anyone. There is also sushi sold individually for those who want to try other things like octopus, squid, sea urcin, etc etc. Prices range, but I would consider it all very reasonable considering the location.
I am no food critic and no, I’m not going to give out ratings here. I’d definitely recommend Toshi Sushi if you are interested in tasting some seriously good sushi though.
Toshi Sushi is located at 565 King St West, Toronto, ON, Canada - King & Bathurst

@.o Do I get first comment? I never get first comment! Anyhoo, I have a sushi-related question. Anybody can answer. Has anybody ever eaten deep-frozen sushi? I read that a lot of restaurants in America deep-freeze these days so squeamish westerners like me don’t have to worry, but it can be dangerous to assume things. So should I just assume or do you think it’s rude to ask? Will I get spitters.?
P.S.–Cruxay, I was on your youtube channel the other day. I don’t have time to reply there, so I guess here is fine, right? Cruxay is good screename because the “crux” part sounds kind of dark and spooky but the “ay” part sounds cute. I don’t know if that’s what you were going for, but I like the juxtaposition………PEACE IN!

@Digger, what is there to be worried about? O.o
The sushi looks yummy, but the pieces looks huge! At least compared to what you usually get here…

Toshi’s has the freshest sushi in Toronto for a reasonable price, I wonder if they get thier fish straight from Japan. That cold Sake glass is a creative one.

Looks much nicer than the place in my neighborhood back in Portland, OR, called Sushiville (haha). It was run by a Korean family and all the sushi chefs were Mexican except for Yoshi, the head guy, who showed up like once a week.
