Zettai Kareshi Episode 1
Finally managed to sit down and watch the first episode of what promises to be a rather entertaining drama. Watched the first episode of Zettai Kareshi (絶対彼氏:ぜったいかれし:Absolute Boyfriend) last night, and at first all I could think of was the Terminator theme song playing in my head, but after a while I got over that and enjoyed the humorous aspects of the drama. I suppose I’ll do a little “first episode summary” for those who are still pondering over whether to watch this or not.
The episode starts out with two members from a company named “Kronos Heaven” who are discussing origins of the word love and its relation to sorrow. They then reveal their creation which will leave no women unsatisfied ever again! Yes, a 6′ 2″ robot boyfriend… Chobits anyone? But first, they need a test subject.
There are some noteworthy cast members in this drama which makes it well worth watching. Sasaki Kuranosuke (who plays the role of Namikiri Gaku) being one of my girlfriend’s favorites. Namikiri mangages to acquire Kronos Heaven’s first test subject: Izawa Riiko (played by Aibu Saki), a creepy office lady of the hopeless romantic type. She enjoys knitting scarves for her ex-boyfriends and clinging onto articles of trash that her desired men discard.
Hayami Mokomichi in a box! The sad part of this is; I really think if a Japanese company decided to market this, it would fly off the shelves like hot-cakes. God already knows that this is happening the other way around for men to creepishly shove into their closets (expect being a female version and without the robotic slave function).
Izawa being concerned that her male-hater of a landlord might find her newly acquired boy-toy beings to panic. Namikiri passionately explains to Izawa: “This may LOOK like a human being, but I assure you it is nothing more than an household electronic. Do you say you ‘live’ together with your washing machine, or television? No? Neither do I!”
Talk about all in one deals! GPS included! Who needs a car?
Don’t try to be a playboy in the workplace (especially when you are fugly). Otherwise you might just have a Terminator robo-boyfriend come and lay the smack down on your face.
Here we have Asamoto Soshi (played by Mizushima Hiro) clearly breaking the 10 second rule. Those Cream puffs were on the floor WAY longer than that. I enjoyed watching Mizushima’s role in the first episode, as he was really funny.
Awww… sweet robo-human love.
Definitely going to continue watching this drama as it unfolds this season. Hayami Mokomichi does an excellent job at portraying a goofy robot boyfriend by saying the mushiest stuff ever, and it just cracks me up. I’d also recommend it to those learning Japanese and need some raw material to watch. This drama seems like it is going to be fairly easy to follow and understand, and doesn’t overly deal with complex terms and plots. Check it out! Leave a comment! Peace.

LOL. Very funny summary, yet doesn’t ruin the plot!
Zettai Kareshi is definitely one to recommend - especially if you’re a fan of Mokomichi~ I really like the cast and the story line seems really cute so far… it IS rather sci-fi at first and a little strange, but I think everything blends really well and you get used to it by the end of the first episode=)

I like a lot of Japanese TV but i have to say i draw the line at Drama …. i drew the line with Drama in Australia too i guess so it has nothing to do with J-drama … just drama in general. Musicals, don’t start me on musicals ….

Kitsune: Very entertaining! check it out
Lisa: Thanks. I am a fan of Mokomichi haha
But you know that. I’ll download the rest that is out right now so we can watch it all this coming weekend and be veggies =)
Neil: I suppose dramas can be a bit much at times, as everything is over-emphasized and what not. But it is for that purpose that I watch them. They emphasize actions and situations just enough so that they can be easier to hear and understand. In my opinion anyways. I don’t think I’ve ever had to witness a musical… haha

This drama sounds really weird, but I like weird! Do you know how many episodes there’ll be when it’s finished? I usually wait until it’s finished (subbed and all) and watch them all in a row. I like Kuranosuke and Hiro so there’s nothing stopping me from watching this, except for the 2 or 3 other dramas I have to watch first

um… just found out something strange. checked up this show on wikipedia, and found out it was originally a manga! -.- Do other manga get adapted into j Drama?

Sano: Weird is alway a good thing, it is nice to step away from reality every once and a while and get another view of things. I believe 6 eps are out currently, and will probably finish between 9 and 11 episodes like most, but I haven’t checked the details yet. My girlfriend is the same, she can’t stand waiting for the next episode haha. She likes to have 11 hour drama marathons and take care of it all in one go.
Kitsune: Yea, I mentioned this in the comments about Zettai Kareshi in my last post about the drama. It is fairly common that manga get their own drama series or movies. I recommended Bambino! to the last person that asked that question. =)

Cruxay: Haha I see! Well then it’ll most definitely be finished when I’ve watched the 2 or 3 other dramas on my to watch list

Interesting. This is definitely based off the manga Zettai Kareshi by Yuu Watase (who also did Fushigi Yuugi and Ayashi no Ceres). Although there are some differences (in the manga, the heroine is a high school student who has never had a boyfriend), I’m sure there’s a connection. The name of the manufacturer–Kronos Heaven is the same and it follows the same story line. I never read the manga because it seemed to ecchi for me, but the live action drama might be good. I’m glad I read this….
(I wonder how often manga goes to live action without becoming animation…..)

Gotta say like the blog, enjoyed this series so far (up to episode 6) its humour is original and there is a small but efficient cast. The 3 leads do well and you are never quite sure what the robot is thinking
May 30th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Viv: 5 second rule?! pfft haha You start watching this yet?
Sarg: Nope, you can never tell because Mokomichi does a good job at putting on that dumb robot
face haha. Thanks for the comment.
